What is truth?

January 26, 2014.

There are many paths that man may take–
all that will either bring good or harm.
Yet each in his own path will find no alarm.

There are many thinkers amongst the sons of men–
ideas are woven and thoughts are formed.
Yet to each clings his own, with others scorned.

“What is truth?” the question was once asked,
to the only one who could discern.
Yet left was the quest and lo, no lesson learned.

What say you, what say you now!
Is the lesson still lost?
Can man afford such an awful cost?

What is truth, I dare ask you now–
can the answer come from man?
Or shall we not seek it from God’s own hand?

What say you, what say you now!
Can you an answer give?
By what standard, by which law do you live?

What does truth resemble, is it relative at best?
Is truth absolute, one way that’s good–
Can truth by man be misunderstood?

What say you, what say you now!
The question begs your thought–
Seek an answer that many have sought.

Truth is alive, though often veiled–
a cruel state for the sons of men.
Seek truth from above, and with folly contend!

“Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.”
(John 18:38)

“‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, butwhatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He willglorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.'”
(John 16:12-14)

“They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.”
(John 17:16-18)

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'”
(John 8:31-32)

Suggested Daily Reading: Psalm 43, John 1, 8, I Corinthians 2.

Let us all come to the knowledge and glory of truth through His guidance.
