Lord God above all that ever is,
Praise and honor are due you.
To him who sits on the throne of heaven,
Let all creation praise as is due.
Why is it, Lord, why is it so?
We are unworthy to call your name.
Why is it, Lord, why is it so?
That you would die, our name to claim?
O wretched man that I am,
How can I stand before thee?
What gift have I to give to you,
What in me, Lord, can you see?
I fall and stand up time again,
The cycle that hardly fades.
No works of mine are good enough,
To deserve your awesome gaze.
Why is it, Lord, why is it so?
We are unworthy to call your name.
Why is it, Lord, why is it so?
That you would die, our name to claim?
Help me Lord, help me see,
Help me seek your will.
Be with me through think and thin,
Until all before you kneel.
I am quick to forget your steadfast love,
How can I dare draw near,
That I may ask of you for me,
leaving the path all but clear.
Why is it, Lord, why is it so?
We are unworthy to call your name.
Why is it, Lord, why is it so?
That you would die, our name to claim?
I come humbly now to you, my King,
That I may see your plan.
I ask that you but guide my life,
Until I reach that promised land.
