Continuing proverbs: The list of proverbs in couples of wisdom continues here with a focus on righteousness and and pursuing wisdom. There is a variety of topics that are found here, including the foolishness of lying, implications and pitfalls of wealth, how the wise will react to rebuke, the surety of justice and punishment. Concepts of note include: desire must be accompanied by knowledge (v. 2), when we encounter loss, we tend to blame God (v. 3), we bring ruin and punishment on ourselves through foolishness (v. 3, 5, 19, 29), with great wealth are many friends (v. 4, 6, 7), we should seek wisdom/understanding (v. 8, 20, 27), there is wisdom in self-control of anger (v. 11), foolishness and continual quarreling wear away at the soul (v. 13), a wise wife is a gift from the Lord (v. 14), keep busy (v. 15, 24), lend to the poor to build treasure with the Lord (v. 17), though men may plan, the Lord’s plans will be the ones that stand (v. 21), the fear of the Lord leads to life (v. 23) and knowledge must be continually sought (v. 27).
